THE MAYOR’S RELIEF DEPOT

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —The statement by the Mayor published in your issue on Wednesday opens with the sentence, "Quite a lot of confusion appears to exist as to the relief granted by the Mayor’s depot.” This confusion certainly does exist, but the Mayor’s statement does not appear to do much towards clearing up matters. Naturally a depot under the direct control of the city’s chief officer would be expected to extend widely in its operations. But is it so? Or is it a fact that this depot caters solely for the relief of workers under scheme 5, and is it limited again to the relief of these during their stand-down week, leaving all other relief work to whomsoever will?— I am, etc., D. B. F.
