BOARD OP DIRECTORS. The monthly meeting of the board qf directors of the Young Women’s Christian Association ■was held on Wednesday. In the absence of the president (Mrs E. E. Nicolson), Mrs J. C. Begg occupied the chair. There were also present Mesdames H. D. Skinner, H. M'Allum, R. N. Field, A. M. Begg. H. K. Wilkinson, W. A. Stevely, Mies Black, and the general secretary. The opening devotions were conducted by Canon Button. The total results of the street day appeal were announced, receipts from donations, stalls, and boxes amounting to £224. Expressions of gratitude were recorded to all those who had assisted on this day by giving their services, donations, and goods. Much inlerest was evoked by the display of pamphlets and news sheets, issued by the various branches of the Y.W.C.A. throughout the world. These had been collected by Mrs J. C. Begg on her recent trip abroad. They were issued in all parts of Europe, and in various parte of America, Canada, and the Islands. A letter was read from the Dunedin Rotary Club inviting the association to send a speaker to one of its luncheon talks.—lt was decided that the Dominion secretary for New Zealand (Miss Jean Stevenson) should accept this invitation on behalf of the association. Correspondence from the Dominion executive was read thanking the Dunedin Association for its invitation to hold the Dominion Convention in Dunedin this year, and stating that the matter was being placed before all associations for consideration and would be decided at a later date. , A full report of the unemployment work was given, there being 346 girls and women registered to date, 120 of whom had been placed in positions. It was reported that the Women’s Unemployment Committee had accepted the association’s offer to conduct the register and the placing of girls. Various methods of securing more work for girls were outlined. _ Some of these were already meeting with success, but other ways would soon have to be devised. It was pointed out that one of the great problems was to secure work by the day for the girl who for various reasons was unable to leave the city and her place of abode. Thirty-three per cent, of those registered come under this category. The remainder of the meeting was occupied in planning for the visit of the Dominion secretary in April. The purpose of Miss Stevenson’s visit was stated to be threefold: —To create and spread interest in the association’s work; to advance the plans and work of the present membership; to assist with finance. To this end meetings were planned, which include numbers of drawing room meetings, social functions, a service, luncheons, and allday conferences with groups within the association.
