THE NEW DAIL

MR DE VALERA’S INTENTIONS ABOLITION OF THE OATH. LONDON,.February 26. (Received Feb. 27, at 0.15 a.m.) Mr De Valera is still in bed as the result of a chill. Answering a Daily Telegraph questionnaire, he said ,he anticipated no difficulty in securing a majority for the # abolition of the oath, and the matter was likely to be raised at an early sitting of the new Bail. He intended to foster trade and friendly relations with Britain, and it was possible that Ireland would still be represented at Ottawa. He was prepared to negotiate agreements giving preference to British goods in return for preference to Free State produce. The Free State standing army would be reduced to the smallest dimensions consistent with safety. He did not anticipate disorder if the Public Safety Act was repealed, on the contrary, he believed that the removal of the oath would secure willing obedience of the law.
