TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Mr Brugh writes that he is “ very surprised, not to say grieved, at the erroneous construction put upou the quotation ... by Mr Collie.” A number of non-literary, and therefore possibly thick-headed persons, interpreted bis speech in the same way as Mr Collie did. It seems to one of these that it would have been a more graceful apology to Miss King, if such were needed, if Mr Brugh had explained just exactly what he did mean and to whom the quotation referred. As it is, his apology is as ambiguous as his speech.—l am, etc., An Anxious Inquirer.
