NOTES FROM PRESS GALLERY (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, February 24. RAILWAY SERVANTS’ SUPERANNUATION. A more equitable arrangement of retiring allowances for railway servants was sought ill a petition presented to the House last session on behalf of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. A favourable report was made by the Railways Committee, and Mr W. J. Jordan (Manukau) asked the Prime Minister today whether the Government proposed to act on the committee’s recommendation. Mr Forbes said consideration had been given to the petition, but no decision hud yet been made. He hoped to make an early announcement. NEW SERGEANT-AT-ARMS. Consequent on the retirement of Major H. H. Browne, Lieutenant-commander Q. F. Bothamley, R.N.V.R., the eldest son of Mr A. T. Bothamley, the veteran usher of Black Rod, has been appointed acting-serge'ant-at-arms. Mr Bothamley has had some 25 years’ service in connection with the Legislature, commencing as a committee clerk and rising to the position of reader and clerk of Bills and papers, which duties he will continue to fulfil in association with his new office.
