MEETING OF OTAGO ASSOCIATION

A meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association was held last night, there being present Messrs W. O. Martin (president), D. Jenkins, W. Riddell, N. Treurn, J. Smaill, P. Cardno, C. Smith, H. C. Brown, J. Davis, T. Brooks, L. Sanderson, A. W. Hazelwood and W.-G. Hewitt (secretary). The secretary of the North-East Harbour Boating Club advised that his club would undertake to run the C. C. Wakefield Cup heat on Easter Monday, provided the competitors were agreeable.— The date suggested by the North-East Harbour Boating Club was approved, and the chairman was. appointed, the association’s delegate to- control the race.

A communication was' received from the secretary of the Burkes-St. Leonards Regatta Committee advising that in the race for motor boats, eight miles per hour and under, held at the regatta on February (J, a protest had been lodged by Mr C. L. Clearwater, of the launch Daphne, against three other boats, which, he alleged, had not turned the correct mark. Two owners of the boats mentioned admitted that they had turned the wrong mark and were disqualified, whilst the owner of the third boat, the Vyella, had maintained that he had rounded the correct mark. Vyella was first to finish and was declared to have won the race. However, the turning point in question was not visible from the judge’s boat, and the committee therefore submitted the matter to the association for its ruling.—After some discussion it was decided to refer the matter back to the Regalia Committee.

A communication was received from the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association stating that in connection with the rules of the Sanders Cup contest two committees had been formed. The first was of five members who had special knowledge of the Jellicoe Class, who were to draw up complete specifications and submit the same for criticism to a second committee of three boat builders, who were to rectify any faults or loopholes for building other than a strictly one-design craft. The Auckland association requested the association to put forward in writing for the information of the committees any. recommendation it might wish to make for the closer building of the craft, the lessening of the cost of construction, the official measuring of the hull, spars, sails, etc., or any other suggestions for the benefit of Sanders Cup races,—lt was decided to refer the matter to a subcommittee consisting of Messrs C. Smith, N. Treurn and G. A. Wiseman, and it was also decided to write to the Auckland association asking for copies of the plans and specifications of the true Rona class. It was decided that a letter be written to Mr H. E. Moller, a former president of the association, sympathising with him in his illness, and wishing him a speedy recovery.
