SUPPRESSING COMMUNISM. THE PROPOSALS OUTLINED. CANBERRA, January 15. The proposals for dealing with Communism, set out in a draft memorandum which the Attorney-General presented to Cabinet, are as follows: —(1) amendment to the Crimes Act to facilitate the collection of evidence against offenders and to make evasion of the law less easy; (2) placing a postal ban on Communist newspapers and increasing restrictions on the importation of Communist literature; (3) examination of the constitutional position as it affects deportation.
