TAIERI MOUTH NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIERI MOUTH, January 15. AMENITIES SOCIETY. An enthusiastic'meeting of the Taieri Mouth Amenities Society’s Committee was held on Saturday last, and was largely attended by members. The president (Mr W. R. Brugh) complimented the members on their untiring efforts during the holiday season, and urged local members of the committee to continue the work of improving, the sports ground, and also impressed on them the necessity of protecting the recently-planted trees on the boundary from the encroachment of lupins on the adjacent sandhills. It was decided to form a local committee, with Mr Henry as convener, to arrange plans for the Easter holidays. Further suggestions with reference to holding a regatta were enthusiastically discussed, and the event seems to be practically assured. The committee is desirous of impressing on visitors to Taieri Mouth that a serious loss has been suffered by many settlers through indiscriminate fire-lighting in the district. A resolution was passed expressing the committee’s appreciation of the valuable service rendered by many willing residents who assisted to extinguish the flames, but not before considerable damage had been done. The disposal by sale of the unused bathing shed by the president was commended, as it had completed its days of usefulness.
