THE NOTE ISSUE DOWN GOLD HOLDINGS UNCHANGED. SYDNEY, January 14. (Received Jan. 14, at 11.30 p.m.) The Commonwealth bank returns show that the note issue is down £1,000,000 to £52,803,000, but gold holdings are unchanged at £10,500,000, or 19.88 per cent. Deposits increased by £2,577,000 to £54,563,000. The London balances have risen £3,100,000 to £12,920,000, and short-term loans are up £8*2,000 at £10,774,000. The ratio of cash to deposits is 12.75 per cent.
