DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs Hazlett (chairman), Goughian, Fisher, A. N. Smith, Edmond, Irwin, Lough, Dr Ross, and Dr Batchelor. Before the meeting commenced the chairman referred to the loss the club had suffered through the deaths of Mr Snowball, who had been an honorary veterinary surgeon of the club for many years, and Mr J. Crawford, the club’s caretaker for over 25 years.—A motion of sympathy with the relatives was passed, the members standing in silence. A statement of the summer meeting, which showed a profit, was received. Reports were received from the stipendiary steward, the racecourse inspector, and the gate superintendent. Mr A. L. Canter was appointed handicapper for the remainder of the racing season. The following Judicial Committee was appointed for the cup meeting;—Messrs Hanlon, Lough, J. Smith, and Drs Ross and Batchelor. It- was resolved to engage the Unemployed Band for the Cup meeting on the same terms as for the Christmas meeting. In connection with admission charges it was resolved that the lawn charge be 7s 6d, outside Is 6d, ladies 2s 6d. An application by Messrs Pyne, Gould, and Guiness to hold a sale of bloodstock on the racecourse on February 12, the day between the two race days, was agreed to. A letter was received from the Railways Department advising that in future ordinary suburban fares would be charged to Wingatui on race days. NGINGONGINGO CASE t CONFIDENCE IN TROTTING ASSOCIATION. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 14. At a meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association, the Ngingongingo case was discussed, and a resolution was passed expressing confidence in the Trotting Association, and strongly urging the conference to use every endeavour to retain the association as at present constituted.
