(From Ouk Own Correspondent.) PEMBROKE, January 12. THE WEATHER. The weather during the past week was unsettled with some heavy showers. The cutting of barley is well forward, and the yields and quality of the grain should be well up to the average. Haymaking has been retarded by the frequent showers, but turnip crops and late sown wheat have benefited considerably. CRICKET. Luggate played Wanaka a challenge match for the Williams Cup on Saturday, at Pembroke, Wanaka retaining the trophy by a margin of 79 runs. Lupgate made 132 runs (R. Reid 35, S. Reid 26. R. Gillespie 10, and C. Templeton 10). Ironside (5 for 27), I. Mackay (2 for 43), S. Willetts (2 for 9, and H. Harris (1 for 20) took the wickets for Wanaka. Wanaka made 211 runs (C. Collings 65, H. Harris 56, J. Withnell 22, C. Tompkins 10. C. Wilson 10, and W. Ironside 12). S. Reid (1 for 40), Hunt (2 for 39), Gibb (2 for 33). and T. Smith (1 for 12) were the most successful bowlers for Lupgate BOWLING. . A rink from Wanaka played the holders of the Jolly Cup at Cromwell on Tuesday, the Cromwell rink winning by 22 to 12. This was the seventh unsuccessful attempt by the clubs in the competition to take the trophy from Cromwell. The skipping of Wilkinson has been a feature of the holders’ winning sequence. Wanaka was represented by Collings, Oakden. Perrow, and Faulks, the Cromwell rink being Dossett, Austin, L. Jolly and Wilkinson.
