(Per Uniteh Press Association.) HAMILTON, January 13. Clinging desperately to the running board of a speeding motor car in the early hours of New Year morning, in an effort to detain the driver, Constable Applin received a free ride which possessed its full complement of thrills. It was not until the car had been driven for four miles out of the town at a speed of 50 miles an hour that it was finally brought to a standstill. The sequel took place in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court this morning, when Robert Edgar M'Crae pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The police evidence showed that the accused, when asked by Constables Applin and Callaghan to get out of the car, started the engine and threw Callaghan into the water table. When the vehicle was finally stopped M'Crae violently resisted arrest. A fine of £2O was imposed and the defendant’s driving license was suspended for three months. TAIHAPE, January 13.
