LATE M. MAGINOT

TRIBUTES TO PATRIOTISM BRAVERY IN THE WAR. PARIS, January 7. Many tributes are paid to M. Magiuot’s patriotism, especially during the war time, when, although an ex-Under-secre-tary for War, he rejoined in 1914 his old regiment as a private and won the Medaille Militaire on November 6, 1914, for gallantry in 50 reconaissances in the neighbourhood of Verdun. He was mentioned in despatches for bravery on November 9, 1914, when 100 Germans 'mbushed his patrol of 18, wounding four with their first volley. M. Maginot, then a sergeant, covered the retreat, despite two wounds. The remainder kept the enemy at bay throughout the day, five being killed and three wounded.
