GAELIC SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING. The first meeting of the year of the Gaelic Society was held last evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Stuart street. Piper K. Cameron played Chief T. Ritchie and Chieftains A. M'Lachlan and A. Campbell to their seats on the platform. Chief Thomas Ritchie, in opening the meeting, extended a hearty welcome to all present, especially to visitors, and mentioned the presence of Mrs M'Donald, of Wellington, a daughter of the late Mrs Campbell, who in her day charmed the members with her rendering of Gaelic songs. The first item on the programme was a Gaelic song by Mrs R. M'Rae, “An Grille ban,” and to *an encore responded with “ Horo cha N’eil cadal orm.” The following also per-formed:—-Mrs J. Aitchison, songs, “ Granny’s Highland Hame ” and “ The Garden of Your Heart,” and “ I Love the Moon”; Mr F. Cooper, songs, “Bonnie George Campbell” and “A Chip of the Old Block ”; Mr A. M'Lennan, Gaelic songs, “ Eileann na fraoich” and “Faile d’uit, slande d’uit”; Miss Darracott, songs, “Ye’d Better Bide a Wee” .and “Ye Banks and Braes”; Mrs Oliver, songs, “A Guid New Year to A and “ The Sour Milk Cert”; Piper K. Cameron, selections: Mr R. Scott, songs, “Hame o’ Mine” and “MacGregors Gathering.” Miss D. Wheeler’s reel party supplied the dances, which were as follow:—Highland reel—Misses Daphne Allan, Pat Atkinson, Flora Macdonald, and Rita Warren; double jig, Misses Pat Atkinson and Flora Macdonald; double hornpipe, Misses Daphne Allan and Rita Warren: reel o’ tulloch—Misses Daphne Allan, Pat Atkinson, Flora Macdonald, and Rita Warren, Miss Crooks played the accompaniments, and Piper Kenneth Cameron supplied the national music. Mr Alexander Mackenzie was M.C. for a short dance which followed the programme.
