Park (Mosgiel Lodge) responded to the visitors toast. P.G. Rro. Brownlee presented a prize for the best officers during the ensuing term. MAJESTIC PICTURES Marion Davies’s ability has been neglected in her assignment in the past to straight farce comedy. For in “ Five and Ten,” her new picture which will be shown at the Majestic Theatre tonight and Monday, she steps out of her familiar type of characterisation and walks right away with as dramatic a role as can be offered. This picturisation of the Fannie Hurst novel will establish a new mark in Miss Davies’s career, winning for her fresh recognition and placing her in a niche as one of the most amazing versatile of screen players. She negotiates this transaction with confidence, apparently as perfectly _at home in a vale of tears as she is in a gale of laughter. Not that she overlooks any comedy opportunity. But her dramatic moments monopolise her appeal. Leslie Howard, Richard Bennett, Irene Rich, and Kent Douglass give very effective support. This afternoon “Skippy” will be shown at the matinee.

PERSONAL The Rev. S. D. Baird, of Waipiata, arrived in Oamaru yesterday, and will occupy the pulpit at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church during the absence of the minister, the Rev. A. B. Kilroy. During his stay in Oamaru the Rev, Baird will be the guest of Mr and Mrs D. Blyth, Derwent street.
