CHURCH SAFE RIFLED

' ABOUT £SO STOLEN % (Per United Press Association,) CHRISTCHURCH, January 7. Thieves opened the safe at the Anglican Cathedral some time on the Monday after Christmas and stole about £SO from it. The theft must have been committed during the day, probably when the verger was absent at lunch. Unfortunately, the home missions offertory, a specially large one, was in the safe. Normally, the offertory is kept in the safe only till Monday, and is then banked, but as the banks were closed on this Monday the collections for both Christmas Day and Sunday were held in the safe.
