Mr Justice Blair arrived in Dunedin on Tuesday, and left early yesterday morning for the north. Mr R. J. Murphy, of Wellington, who came to Dunedin for the races, left by car yesterday for tbe north. Mr D. W. Madden, chairman of directors of New Zealand Breweries, who has been in Dunedin for some days, left yesterday on a motor tour of Central Otago, en route for Queenstown. Mr Madden, who is accompanied by Mrs Madden and family, will return to Dunedin on Monday next, Mr Justice Owen, of Sydney, and Mrs Owen arrived in Wellington by the Monowai on a holiday trip to New Zealand. They will be the guests of Sir Frederick and Lady Chapman. Mr C. Waterston, manager of the New Plymouth office of the Union Bank of Australia, is to retire on superannuation on February 21 He has been manager of the New Plymouth office of the bank for 11 years and a member of the staff of the Union Bank for 34 years. For seven years before joining the Union Bank Mr Waterston was in the Bank of New Zealand. Then he joined the Union Bank, being stationed at Christchurch. He held his first position as _ manager at Whakatane, where he remained for 10 years. He was manager at Ashburton for three years, and was then promoted to. New Plymouth. The head office of the Alliance Assurance Company, Ltd., London, has advised the general manager for New Zealand (Mr R. Caughley) that the following appointments will take effect as from January 1 next: —Mr L, A. Hutton (assistant manager of the Wellington branch), to be manager of the Wellington branch; Mr D. T. Todd (of the Wellington staff), to he manager of the Timaru branch; Mr W. W. Callender (at present manager at Timaru), to be manager at Dunedin; Mr A. Burn (the present Dunedin manager) will retire on superannuation.
