NEWTON ELM REFLOATED. BEING TOWED TO SYDNEY. , , ; SYDNEY, December 28. (Received Dec. 28, at 9 p.m.) With the aid of two powerful tugs and a very high tide the stranded freighter Newton Elm was refloated at' noon, and is now being towed to Sydney for docking. The vessel is leaking slightly, but is not seriously damaged. ’ r ■, ; ‘ T~:\ SOUTH AUSTRALIA SWELTERING, EXTREME HEAT RECORDED. ADELAIDE, December 28. (Received Dec. 28, at 9 p.m.) Extreme heat is prevailing in South Australia, and has been well over 100 degrees during the past four days, while' the readings at Port Pirie for the past three days are 104, 107, and 109 degrees. ; DARLINGHURST SENSATION. ; REVOLVER DUEL IN STREET. SYDNEY, December 28. (Received Dec. 29, at 2 a.m.) A sensational revolver duel at Darlinghurst to-night was- witnessed by scores of people. Two men quarrelled over a woman, and both .drew revolvers in a busy street and began firing pointJfiank at each other, at least eight shots being heard. Frederick Roberts, aged 35, was killed, and James White, aged, 28, the other man, was arrested and charged with murder. Some of the bullets smashed shop windows.
