WEATHER SUMMARY FOR : AUGUST • ■■/ *

(From Oub Own Correspondent.) OPHIR, September 2. The following, is the report of the Ophir meteorological station for the month of August:— Average reading of barometer (aneroid) at 9 a.mi, 29.80 in; highest (August 6), 30,44 in; lowest (Ist), 29.01 in; extreme range, 1.43 in. Average shade temperature at 9 a.m., 32.2 deg; highest (August 3), SO.ldeg; lowest (August 7), 25.4 deg. Average for July, 33.6 deg; for August, 1930, 33.8 deg. Shade temperature extremes. —Average maximum, 48.7 deg (July, 4G.odeg; August, 1930, 47.6 deg). Average minimum, 20.9 deg (July, 25.1 deg; August, 1930, 26.1 deg). The highest maximum was 57.3 deg, on August 19; the lowest minimum 19.4 deg, on July 6. The corresponding figures for August, 1930 and 1929 respectively were: Highest maximum, both 59.8 deg; lowest minimum, 12.2 deg and 20.4 deg. Grass temperature.—Average,minimum, 24.8 deg (July, 19.2 deg; August, 1930, 21.6 deg). The highest was 38.0 deg, on August 12; the lowest, 12.4 deg, on August 6. The lowest reading in July was 4.6 deg, and in August, 1930, 6.7 deg. The temperature fell to 32.0 deg and lower on 20 mornings, to 30.4 deg (frost) on 22 mornings. (In July, both on 80 mornings; in August, 1930, on 27 mornings and 26 mornings respectively.) Solar radiation.—Average maximum, 83.7 deg (July, 87.4 deg). The highest was ,'l22deg, on August 19. The temperature exceeded lOOdeg on six days; ranged from !90deg to lOOdeg on sis days; and from 80deg to 90deg on five days.
