KNOCKED DOWN BY TRAMCAR (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 18. The woman knocked down by a tramcar at Miramar last night is Miss Florence Waterhouse, of Onepu road, Kilbirnie. The hospital reports her condition as very serious. A message which appeared yesterday morning stated that as the result of being knocked down by a tram in Hobart street. Miramar, early on Wednesday evening, an unknown middle-aged woman lay unconscious in a serious condition in the Wellington Hospital, The tram was pulled up sharply, and the woman was founded wedged underneath, jacks being required to raise the tram sufficiently to release her.

DEATH FROM GUNSHOT WOUND (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. Bernard M’Kenzie Smith, a fanner, of Waitoi Peaks, near Hawarden. was found early this afternoon lying on the ground at Mason’s Flat with a gunshot wound in his chest, and died half an hour later. A.shotgun was found near him. SUICIDE BY GAS POISONING (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. A verdict of suicide by gas poisoning was brought in by the coroner (Mr E. D. Mosley) at the inquest this evening into the death of Andrew Jock, a West Coast miner, who,was found dead in a shed at the rear of the house where he boarded. Jock had been out of work and short of money, and was in arrears with his board. His landlady had told him that he must pay at least part of the money due or leave this morning. He was found in a shed with a sack oyer his head and an open gas jet inside the sack. He had been dead for some hours. FARMER FOUND DEAD (Per United Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, June 18. A well-known resident of Grove Bush, Mr William Burke, a farmer, aged 57, was found dead on Wednesday morning on his property with a wound in his throat. An inquest was held this morning, and after hearing evidence the coroner returned a verdict of suicide. QUARRY WORKER INJURED James Topping, 60 years of age, residing at Evansdale. was caught in a fall of stone in the Public Works quarry, Broad Bay, yesterday, and was admitted to the Hospital suffering from bead injuries at 2.30 p.m.
