ROXBURGH NOTES

(From: Our Own Correspondent.) ROXBURGH, June IS. THE WEATHER. Up to the present weather conditions have been very favourable, and the winter has not been severe. The hardest frost recorded so far has been 12 degrees, on June 12, but there has not been a continuous spell, and the weather generally has been mild. During April there were seven days’ frost, the highest being 4 degrees; in May, 15 days, up to 11 degrees; and during the present month 8 days, the highest being 12 degrees. . PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE. The monthly meeting of the executive of the Progressive League was held on Monday. Mr Laloli was in the chair. After some routine business had been transacted, a proposal to undertake tree planting in and around the town was discussed, and it was decided to secure the assistance of the senior pupils of the school for this purpose. An inspection of suitable places for trees was arranged for, and the secretary was instructed to get particulars of trees from the Government nursery. TEVIOT POWER BOARD, The monthly meeting of the Teviot Power Board was held yesterday. Mr T. P. Michelle presiding. The following members were present:—Dr Gilmour, and Messrs George, Kinaston, Waigth, and M'Donal.d Accounts amounting to £382 15s were passed for payment. Receipts for the month were £351 Ss 7d. The board considered the increased charges for the additional lighting of the Borough Council in the new Town Hall. The present connected load is 27,000 watts, and the units consumed from March 12 to June 1 amounted to 1407. A new annual charge for street and hall lighting was agreed on, and this will be submitted to the council at an early date. The engineer was given authority to order eight transformers, 5-5 K.V.A. and 3-15 K.V.A.. The foreman reported that the maximum load since last meeting was 745 k.w. It was resolved that where the board’s officials were refused access to consumers’ premises for legitimate purposes, the power be cut off until such time as permission was granted. GOLF. The Roxburgh Golf Club held a medal match on June 13, six ladies and 11 men taking part. The winners in both classes were young players, and Master B. Gilmour, who won the men’s section, handed in the second best card for the afternoon.
