GOOD TEMPLARY. The weekly meeting of the Hope of Dunedin Lodge was held on Wednesday in the Good Templar Hall, Harrop street. C.T., Bro. Clarence South presided over a good attendance of members. Visitors Were present from Hope of Caversham and Rescue Lodges. Correspondence was received from the grand secretary and the Star of Freedom Lodge. A candidate was proposed for membership. Bro. Currie gave a favourable report on the Juvenile Temple. Bro. lies, C.T., Rescue Lodge, gave the greetings of his lodge. The item for the evening was sisters’ surprise. The surprise consisted of a plate of hot stew being handed round. Parlour games were played, and a parcel game was won by Bro. Thompson. The Silver Star Juvenile Temple, No. 6, held its weekly meeting on Wednesday, Sis. Raynor, A.S.J.W., in charge. C.T., Bro. Ken Russell presided over a good attendance of members. Two new members were initiated into the Order. Bro. Currie, a visitor from the Hope of Dunedin Lodge, gave an address on the ad-, vantages of Good Templary. Sis. Mrs Gain gave a few riddles, and the C.T. ' read a paper on temperance. The Sar of the South Temple challenge the Silver Star to a basket ball match in the near future. Bro. South, sen., gave the members their temperance lesson and the meeting closed at 8 p.m. The Star of the South Temple met in the Kensington Hall on Tuesday. >■ Sis. Jessie Cameron presiding, and Bro. Hilton in charge. One new member was initiated. A basket ball team was formed and a match was arranged against the Silver Star Temple. Bro. Turnbull spoke briefly to the children on love and temperance. Songs were practised for wand lodge. The Rescue Lodge, 1.0.6. T., met in the Kensington Hall on Tuesday, C.T., Bro. W. G. Ilea presiding oveir a large attendance of members. Sympathy was expressed with the widow and family of the late Bro. Lochore. Officers’ regalia was' banded in black, and a short memorial service was conducted by the Rev. W. H. Greenslade, who spoke of the Rev. Lochore ns a man born to lead, a cheerful man, a man revered and loved, and Mr Greenslade urged the members to - rise up and help to carry on the work Bro. Lochore was forced to lay down. Solos were given by Bro. Turnbull, Sis. Steedman, and Bro. E. J. lies, and all members joined in singing: One new member was initiated and welcomed into the Order. Greetings were conveyed by Sis. South, Hope of Dunedin Lodge; Sis, Donaldson, Hope of Caversham Lodge; and Bro. Smith, All Nations Lodge. The weekly meeting of the Hope of Caversham was held in the Baxter Hall, Marion street. Cavershata, on Thursday evening last, C.T. Bro. T. Giles presiding over a very good attendance of members and friends from the Rescue \and All Nations Lodges. After the usual business of the lodge was over, the programme for the evening was in the hands of the young brothers, being a mock election. One candidate was initiated. An invitation was extended to all to visit the Hope of Dunedin next Wednesday, on account of it being their anniversary. A very hearty vote of thanks was given to Sis. Mrs Steedman during the evening on lending her home for the use of parlour games, and another such evening was to be held on Saturday at ! the same place. Such evenings help towards the fund for the Reception Committee for Grand Lodge. The lodge then closed with the usual ceremony. „ _ The Star of Freedom Lodge, No. 5, I. met on Monday last in their lodgeroom, Kaikorai Valley, when there was a fair attendance of visitors and members, every lodge in the Dunedin district being represented. Bro. W. Paterson, L.D., had charge of the programme for the evening, and arranged varied and interesting items, contributed to by the following sisters: —Gain (Hope of Dunedin), Parker, Robinson, Leishman (Hope of Caversham), Peates, M'Kenzie, and Reynolds, while Bro. Paterson and Sisters Paterson provided the supper. Bro. Churchill (Rescue), Sis. Donaldson (Hope of Caversham). and Sis. Gain (Hope of Dunedin) responded on behalf .of those contributing items and for the visitors. The Hope of Caversham Lodge, No. 128, held its weekly meeting in Baxter Hall, Marion street, on Thursday. South Otago District Lodge, No. 1 (Albany Street Hall).-There was an. excellent attendance at the meeting presided over Ly D.D.G.M. Bro. A. Beveridge. One candidate had the second degree conferred on him bv D.M. Bro. 0. Childs, assisted by the officers of the Ifdge. special committee reported that it had been decided to hold the annual reunion, of town and country members on August 22 1 Last year about 60 visitors were preJnt and new lodges had been opened since then it was hoped the number of visitors would be increased. The final arrangements would be made at a further meeting to be attended by the. Rcbekah representatives. The 8 P committee set up. to revise the rules for initiatory competitions reported that the new rules would be available at next meetiro- A very keen discussion took place in° connection with this matter, at the . conclusion of which D.D.GAI. Bro. Severidee thanked the members for theiri opinions, which would be an excellent' guide in framing the new rules. The special committee in connection with the rules for the bowling competition also reported. Bro. H. H. Johnson and Bro. W. Campbell (auditors) were thanked for their work in auditing the books. of the lodge. D.D.G.M. Bro. Wilhams Otago ; Central, was introduced by P.D.D.G.M. Bro. R. Kirkham, and received the. honours of the Order. In returning • thanks, Bro. Williams expressed his pleasure at being able to attend, the meeting and being given the opportunity of listening to the discussion on the question or elocution as a governing factor in initiatory competitions. He hoped to be able to institute similar competitions in his district, as he considered them of great value for the improvement of'lodge work. Tne ■ secretary conveyed greetings from Bro. Blundell, of the Star of Napier Lodge. ; who was then in town, but was unable to attend the meeting Bro. J- Mlyor, P D.D.G.M., reported that P.D.D.G.M. . Bro. D.
