OTAGO RUGBY LEAGUE

WEEKLY EXECUTIVE MEETING A meeting of the Otago Rugby Football League executive was held last evening. The president (Mr T. M. Gillies) was chairman. The secretary reported that he had interviewed Mr Coxhead with reference to the formation of a club at Tomahawk, but nothing definite had been gleaned.— Mr Divers reported that a meeting of plavers was being held at Tomahawk that night, and that there was a probability of a club being formed or players being secured to supplement the City team. A representative from the Pacific Club was in attendance at the meeting, and would submit a report to the executive in duo course.—The chairman suggested that the matter be held over until the report was received, and this was agreed to. The secretary of the Christian Brothers’ Club wrote stating that the committee had resolved to ask the executive to notify the referees to take a firmer control of the game, ft was stated that too much laxity was allowed, with the result that illegal tactics, such as obstructing. formation of set scrums, and the position of players when playing the ball were allowed to pass unnoticed. —The chairman said that members of the executive would agree that the standard of football played this year l was much better than in previous years, and it was improving all the time. The referees were giving good results. There were times when infringements occurred, and a referee should not be censured if any incident escaped his notice, as he only had one pair of eyes. He thought it would be a wise move if the referees were called together to study the rules thoroughly for the benefit of themselves and the players.—lt was decided to ask the referees to meet on June 26. It was also decided to notify the Christian Brothers’ Club that its letter would be dealt with by the Referees’ Association. An application from the Christian Brothers’ Club for the use of the social room in the Caledonian Ground pavilion on the evening of June 24 was granted. The following is the draw for Saturday’s matches (Ellis Cup competition): Athletic v. Christian Brothers. Caledonian Ground, 2.45 p.m. (Mr F. Percy); City v. Pacific. Oval, 2.43 p.m. (Mr T. O’Connor). The draw for Saturday, June 27, is as follows:—Athletic v. Pacific, City v. Christian Brothers. The draw far Saturday, July 4. as as follows: Christian Brothers v. Pacific, City v.
