THE M'KENZIE CAIRN
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —At the unveiling ceremony in Palmerston on Saturday last of the Sir John M'Kenzie monument, one of the speakers, while thanking the present owner of the land for generously giving the necessary land for the monument, stated that a previous owner had refused to grant permission for the erection of the original cairn on Puketapu. Inadvertently, no doubt, he conveyed the impression that the gentleman referred to was the late Mr James Ross. I wish to correct such an impression, as Mr Ross did not own the land for some years after the original cairn had been erected. —I am, etc., Knowledge.
