BALCLUTHA, June 13,
GOOD DAILY AVERAGE. For the past week the local freezer has averaged 3000 sheep and lambs daily, with a board of 36 butchers. This promises to be' a record season for the works. LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.
Mrs Denton Leech, secretary of _ the Dunedin' branch of the League of Nations, addressed a large meeting of the Balclutha League of Mothers and Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union in the Presbyterian Hall yesterday afternoon. Mr William bluest, who was injured by a kick from a'horse a fortnight ago, is now able to be up and about, but is still far from completely convalescent. • Mr George Edwards, of Clyde street, was taken to the Balclutha Hospital on Thursday night suffering from appendicitis. An operation has since been successfully performed. Mr W. D Carson, mine manager at Kaitangata for many years, is reported to be resigning at the end of this month. Mr Carson has long been recognised ae one of the leading authorities on practical coal mining in New Zealand.
