Scientists at the North-Western University, Chicago, claim to have discovered a serum that will make the whole world tell the truth. This “ truth serum ” is regarded as an infallible means of breaking down the silence of criminals and reaching the heart of the most baffling murder mysteries. The drug’s ingredients are said to depress the nervous system and cause forgetfulness. The serum breaks through inhibitions and obliges the patient to tell the .truth. In the words of its two discoverers. Dr Leonard Keiller and Dr C. W. Muehlberger, “the truth exists fundamentally in -the mind and with inhibitions withdrawn by the drug it is the first thing to be expressed. Dr Muehlberger reports that so far 80 per cent, of his patients have been obliged to speak the truth, and he attributes the 1 failures to insufficiency of the drug.
