DAUGHTER AS SUCCESSOR. - A father’s high/esteeifa for his daughter’s ability, to which he testified in his will, has resulted in her appointment us chairman of an old-established firm in the City of London. Mrs Nellie Phillida Rushby, the new chairman of Messrs Jerrards, Ltd., trimming warehousemen, is the daughter of the late Mr Thomas Webber Jerrard. Mr Jerrard, who left £11,635, was Mrs Rushby’s predecessor as chairman ol the firm, and in his will he expressed a desire that his daughter should succeed him, because “ I have great confidence in her judgment, and feel sure that it would be in the best interests of the company.”. His wish was fulfilled when Mrs Rushby was elected chairman at a board meeting of the company. , “We felt bound to honour the late Mr Jerrard,” said a member of the firm. “ She is a woman with a first-class business brain, and her father’s faith in her abilities is completely justified.” Mrs Rushby is 50 years of age.
