NATIVE LAND COURT

DUNEDIN SITTINGS The sittings of the Native Land Court commenced in Dunedin on June 9 before Judge Gilfedder, the following cases being dealt with;— Survey charges for block XII, sections 63 and 81, Waikouaiti, were made. Succession orders numbering 20 in all were made in respect of the following deceased natives:—Fred Hipi, George Palmer, Hariata Overton, Hoani Parata, James Lee, Martha Dixon, Robert Brown 11, and Tupa Burke. An application under section 23 of Act No. 29, 1930, was made by Tuiti Makitanara, member for the Southern Maori District, to have moneys in respect of Keputai (Port Chalmers, 401, 412) expended on the native reserves and the improvement of cemeteries in the Qtago district. Several Natives representing other districts were present and applied to have portion of the said moneys spent on native reseryes in their district. This application was opposed by the representatives of the Otago district on the grounds that the funds belonged to Otago alone.
