CROWD LEASEHOLDS IN HYDE
ro IHB EDITOR Sir, —The report in your issue of May 15, of a meeting pf the Otago Land Board, ■shows that Mr J; ■!. Creighton applied for sections ID and ?9, /block VI, .Town or Hyde, 4 acres, and part section 19,block VI. Town of Hyde, at present held by John Laughton, who is now a non-resi-dent of the district,' .. Mr- Creighton is, a railway servant, with a rosy position, and is a new resident in the district, who has lately purchased Mr John Laughtons residence in Hyde, with a good acreage ot freehold.. The board adjourned consideration- of the application 'in! order to 'secure a report on these sections. I fail to see why a railway man should, secure the right to occupy these /Sections -when he is holding enough fr>eho)d 'tdj .run a few cows and horses. I would suggest that these sections be put .up for application to the residents of Hyde who’ are landless m order that they-may be enabled to run a cow or horse omfheml There are several of them who would be pleased to hav.-, the sections or part of them at the termination of Mr Laughton’s lease. I am, etc., Landless. June 8.
