RACING IN AUSTRALIA. PHAR LAP WINS AGAIN. {United Presa Association.) (By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) MELBOURNE, February 22. , (Received Feb. 22, at 7 p.m.) The Victoria Amateur Turf Club’s races were held at Caulfield in cold, bleak weather. After heavy rain the track was holding. Following are the results:— WOODCLIFFE HANDICAP.—VeiImond, 3.6 (M'Carten), 1; Cervantes, 7.2 (Percival), 2; Elrey, 8.12 (Duncan), 3. Thirteen started, including Prince Don and Induna. Won by a length and ahalf, a length and a-quarter between second and third. Time, 2min 22Jsec. CAULFIELD FUTURITY STAKES. PHAR LAP. 10.3 (Pike) .. 1 MYSTIC PEAK, 10.2 (A, Reed) 2' TAURUS. 8.12 (Selby) .. 8 The other starters were;—Wise Force, Grenline, Moliison, Brazen Face, The Doctor’s „■ Orders, Waterline, and Lightstead. Although last to get away, Phar Lap gradually improved his position and made a great run on the outside of the field when nearing the home turn. The champion, was forced further out when Taurus hung out. Mystic Peak then began to look dangerous on the rails, but in a wonderful finish Phar Lap was ridden right out and just beat Mystic Peak by a neck. Taurus was a length away third, Moliison was fourth, and then came Greenline, Waterline, and Wise Force. Time, Imin 27Jsec. STANLEY PLATE (for three-year-olds). —Golden Arrow, 8.0 (Raffaele), 1; Santorb, 9.3 (Pike), 2; Uriah Heep, 7.13 (Wilson), 3. Ten started. Won by a length and three-quarters, two lengths between second and third. Time, Imin 41fsee. Phar Lap has now won £50,062 in stakes, which is a record for Australia. Amounis is next with £48,297. J. Pike, the rider of Phar Lap in the Futurity, stated that the horse ran the greatest race of his career, and proved himself the best horse in the world to win in his present condition. Phar Lap was last before the five-furlong post was reached. Pike has now ; ridden three Futurity winners. Holdfast ran second in the fifth division of the Hawksburn Handicap, which was won by Spanish Galleon, who was ridden by Ashley Reed. The first and second horses in the Futurity Stakes were bred in New Zealand.
