SALE OF AMMON RA.

GOING TO AUSTRALIA. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, February 21. New Zealand’s leading two-year-old, Ammon Ra, has been sold to go to Australia, and be will be shipped to Sydney by the Ulimaroa on March 6. The purchaser is Mr C. C. Sheath, formerly of Auckland, but now of Sydney. The purchase price has not been disclosed, but it is believed to have been a very substantial one. Negotiations for the purchase were commenced some days ago. and after Ammon Ra had been inspected by Mr Sheath and Dr W. C. Ring at Takanini yesterday the deal was finally completed. Amnion Ra has important engagements at the Australian Jockey Club’s Easter meeting at Knndwick —namely. The Champagne Stakes, a sweepstakes of £2O each with £3OOO added, and the Sires Produce Stakes, a sweepstakes of £2O each with £SOOO added. Unless present intentions arc altered he is to contest both these races and he will be ridden by M. M'Carten, whose services have already been secured. Mr Sheath, the new owner of Ammon Ra, is returning to Sydney by the Aorangi tomorrow, and on arrival there he will make arrangements for the youngster to go into one of the leading stables at Randwick. When Ammon Ra is shipped away he will go across to Sydney under the care of W. Jarvis, who has been travelling head lad for J. T, Jamieson for some time past. It will not be the horse’s first trip to Sydney as he was one of the team that J. T. Jamieson had there last year. However, he did not race on the other side as ho contracted a cold, and was sent back home. Ammon Ra is a solidly-built gelding by Limoncl from Hyades, and was bred by Dr E. H. B. Milsom, in whose colours he has done all his racing. He is a half brother to Prodice, a really good performer, and Phaola, another good winner, but he has shown greater promise than either of his relatives did at the same age. In five starts he has notched four wins and a second, and he has won the Great Northern Foal Stakes, the Royal Stakes, the Wellington Stakes, and the Taranaki Stakes in successive starts, the only time be has been beaten being in his first start. To date Ammon Ra has won £2535 in stakes and has shown form which has left no doubt that he is an exceptionally good two-ycar-old. He was a good' pro-

position for Dr Milsom, and there is no reason why he should not also be a profitable speculation for Mr Sheath. Success in one or other of his autumn engagements at Randwick would give his new owner a quick return, and on what has been seen of Ammon Ea it will be surprising if he fails to hold his own with the best of his age in Australia. THE WOODVILLE MEETING. RE-HANDICAPS. (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ February 22. The following re-handicaps have been declared for the Woodville meeting:— Woodville Cup: Royal Parade 8.5, Chopin 7.8; County Handicap, Navaho 7.5. THE GORE MEETING. HOT TEA RE-HANDICAPPED. (Per United Press Association.) TIMARU, February 22. Hot Tea has been re-handicapped to 8.3 in the Summer Handicap at the Gore meeting.
