AUSTRALIAN COMPETITION. SAFEGUARDS REQUESTED. (United Preae Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) VANCOUVER, February 19. (Received Feb. 20, at 10 p.m.) A message from Victoria states that, declaring that Australian and New Zealand imports were demoralising the dairying, sheep, and allied industries, British Columbia farmers’ institutes have urged the Government to request the Dominion Government to safeguard them under the treaty. It was frankly stated that they could not compete with Australian prices. They also requested that representation be made to the Imperial Conference for a ban on Oriental immigration. COMPULSORY GRAIN POOL ACT. ENACTMENT DEMANDED. VANCOUVER, February 19. (Received Feb. 20, at 10 p.m.) A message from Regina states that 1000 farmers marched to the Legislature and demanded the enactment of the Compulsory Grain Pool Act as a remedy for low prices. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr W. C.- Buckle) promised that the demand would be considered when the Bill was being discussed. REFERENDUM TO BE TAKEN. VANCOUVER, February 19. (Received Feb. 20, at 11 p.m.) Advice from Regina says that the Saskatchewan Legislature passed a motion by 48 votes to 5 providing that a referendum of the people of the province be taken on a 100 per cent, compulsory grain pool.
