THE UNEMPLOYMENT LEVY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —May I ventilate _ a little grievance? I am only a working man, who is doing little work, and is it a fair thing that, having paid my first instalment of the unemployment levy, I and others should be called on to pay the second levy, due in a week or two, when it is a well-known fact that there are hundreds —and, I daresay, thousands — that have not paid and have no intention of paying? My money was kept off my pay—of that I am not complaining—and I was told that if we-did not pay up we should be dismissed, as the employers were liable if they retained the services of a man who did not pay his levy. I have no objection to the paying of the levy provided that everybody else does his bit. Otherwise I am not going .to pay the second levy, as I am only doing a day’s work here and a day there. I hope that some abler pen than mine will take this matter up. —I am, etc. Fair Play.
