(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAPANUI, February 17. Bruce M'Leocl, for whom Mr L. J. O. Arthur appeared, was proceeded against by his wife, who was represented by Mr W. B. Naylor, for maintenance under the Destitute Persons Act. After lengthy evidence had .been heard on both sides the magistrate made an order for 12s 6d per week, the first payment to be made on February 18. Arthur Coburn Goodlet, charged with drunkenness, was convicted and fined 10s and costs (12s). Further charged with wilfully breaking a panel of glass, the property of Elizabeth M'Cann, the defendant was convicted and ordered to pay the damage (15s). John Taylor Pink, charged with drunkenness, was convicted and fined 10s and costs (12s). CIVIL CASES. Mrs M. C. Perriam (Mr Arthur) v. Robert Taylor, claim £3 ss, for board and lodging.—Judgment by default fo ramount of claim, less 10s paid, and costs (£1 3s Gd). Wylie Bros. (Mr Naylor) v, Jamieson and Trustier, claim £8 4s 9d. for work done.—Judgment by default for amount claimed, with costs (£3 3s). J, Graham and Co. v. William M'Donald, claim £2 12s 6d, for goods supplied.— Judgment by default for amount of claim, with costs (£1 7s 6d). JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. T. Beck and Son proceeded against Hector Patrick on a claim for £l2 7s sd. The defendant was ordered to pay the amount claimed forthwith, in default 13 days in Invercargill Prison.—The same defendant was proceeded against by Dr William Robertson on a claim for £l6 13s, and was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, in default 17 days in Invercargill Prison. EARTHQUAKE FUND. 1 The public appeal for contributions to the Earthquake Fund has netted £SO. A meeting of ladies convened by the Mayoress (Mrs W. R. Quin) for the purposes of discussing ways and means of raising funds for the sufferers in the earthquake area was held in the Town Hall on Thursday. The attendance was moderate, but marked enthusiasm was shown by the 14 ladies present. After a general discussion it was agreed that a cake, produce, and clothing stall be held at the flower show on the 21st inst., subject to the approval of the committee, and that a monster social evening be held in the Town Hall on Wednesday next, when it is hoped that the public will support the worthy object. At a special meeting of the Ranger and Girl Guide companies, held on Thursday, it was decided to forgo the trip to Dunedin on March 11 and to donate the money for the expenses to the Earthquake Fund. The copper trail arranged by the members, and held at the agricultural show on Wednesday, realised £4 9s 2d for tha fund. PERSONAL. Mr 11. S. Jones, of the Wyndham branch of the Bank of New Zealand, is at present relieving Mr J. Alexander, of the local staff, who is on annual leave. Mr W. J. Dunnet, forest ranger, Conical Hill, leaves on Tuesday to take up his new appointment at Nelson. Mr J. Armstrong, ranger at Beaumont plantation, has been transferred to Conical Hill. Miss L. M'Coll, of the local staff of the State Forest Service, left to-day on transfer' to the Invercargill office.
