GEORGE STREET BURGLARY.
NO FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS. LOSS TOTALS £3OOO. As yet no further developments in connection with thev daring burglary of the premises of Dawson and Co., jewellers, of George street, which took place in broad daylight on Saturday evening, have occurred. A closer investigation into the number of diamond rings and other articles of jewellery removed from the window has disclosed the fact that the total value of the stolen goods is approximately £3ooo,'and as the haul constituted some of the most valuable set stones kept in stock by Mr Herbert, Wright, the owner of the shop, his loss is particularly heavy, , The thief or thieves were more, than usually proficient in their art, as was shown by the workmanlike manner in which entry was effected through the floor at the rear of the premises, the boards being cut perfectly cleanly, whilsu there was a complete absence of fingermarks or other signs of identification.. The sensational burglary in Mr Wright s shop recalls the spasmodic burglaries which have taken place in the same block of buildings in recent years, one firms store having been entered on three occasions. In those instances the burglars left no trace of evidence as to their means of entry.
