LABOUR IN AUSTRALIA

THE PARKES CONFERENCE, MR LANG IN HIS ELEMENT. (United Press Association.) (By Electric ' Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, January ß 20. A bitter attack on financial institu-tions-was made by the Premier (Mr J. T. Lang) when addressing the Country Labour Conference at Parkes. He said that unless within the next three or four months the Governments of Australia found a means of breaking through the financial net that enmeshed them every Government would be broken. Referring to Mr Reginald M’Kenna’s remarks, Mr Lang said: We agree with Mr M'Kenna that salvation can only come through 'the adoption of some other form of currency. Sooner or later this problem must be faced by the Australian Governments.” POLICY OF INFLATION URGED. SYDNEY, January 20. (Received Jan. 27, at 0.30 a.m.) The Country Labour Party Conference at Parkes, at which the Premier was present, passed a resolution for a straight-out policy of inflation, and urging the Federal Government to make credit available to the Commonwealth Bank in order to finance industry and thereby decrease unemployment. THE FEDERAL TREASURERSHIP. INVITATION TO MR THEODORE. CANBERRA, .January 20. (Received Jan. 27, at 2 a.m.) . There has been an important development in the Federal political sphere, Cabinet having agreed to invite Mr Theodore to resume the Treasurership. Mr Scullin submitted a recommendation to this effect for the caucus’! approval, but a decision is unlikely before midnight. It is understood that if Mr Theodore is reinstated the Senate will immediately adopt a hostile attitude to legislation sponsored by him, and a crisis is inevitable. APPROVAL OF CAUCUS. STATEMENT BY MR SCULLIN. CANBERRA, January 26. (Received Jan, 27, at 2 aim.) The caucus approved of Mr Theodore's readmission to the Federal Ministry. Mr Scullin, in a statement, said that he never believed that he was guilty of the Mungana frauds and regarded the delay in prosecuting him as most unwarranted. The Federal Government greatly needed his services in the herculean task of straightening out the national finances.
