CROMWELL NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) CROMWELL, January 24. HEAVY RAINS. Since the heavy rain early in the week further heavy showers have fallen almost daily. There was an exceptionally heavy thunderstorm on Friday evening which lasted some time. Earlier in the day heavy gales blew, and w'hile the ruin lasted the thunder and lightning tvere the worst known for years. This latest visitation may have a tendency to clear the air, as this morning the weather was clear and settled, DEVELOPMENT COMPANY’S RACE. The damage to the Cromwell Development Company’s race is not of a serious nature and repairs are well advanced. Despite the high river the management was able to close the gates controlling the race, and any surplus finding its way in was diverted through a floodgate. The hole in the race is some 13 feet along its course, and this is being bridged with a -wooden flumiug. The company should soon be able to resume pumping.
