ROXBURGH NOTES.

CENTRAL OTAGO.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ROXBURGH, January 26. A gale of hurricane force swept this district on Friday afternoon,-but fortunately no serious damage was done. The following day was very fine, and on Sunday afternoon rain set in. 95 points falling during the night, making a total of 317 points for the month. It is still raining, but the barometer is now higher than it has been for several weeks, and indications are for fine weather. OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD. . On Saturday afternoon members of the Otago Hospital Board visited the local hospital, and conferred with the committee on certain matters in connection with increasing its appointments. The party included Messrs Knight, Jacobs. Wales, Downes, Dr Thomson, and Miss Tenncnt, and Messrs,Galloway, Dove, Scurr, and M'Lennan, Mrs Marshall Macdonald, and Miss Runciman. The local committee was represented by Messrs Michelle and Waigtlj, Mesdaraes Allen and Weaver, and Dr Gilmour and Miss Wren (matron) were also present. After the building and grounds had been inspected a meeting,was held, and the board received a deputation from the Progress League, which was represented by Messrs Laloli and Alexander. The deputation asked for increased accommodation at the hospital, so that medical cases and serious accidents might be treated there before being transferred to the base hospital, and also that the local doctor be afforded the right to call in assistance whenever he considered it necessary; such assistance to be guaranteed payment by the board. The deputation was assured by the chairman of the board and other members who joined in the discussion, to the effect that no objection would be offered to Dr Gilmour's calling in the services of another doctor, preferably one in the board’s district. In the event of the patient being unable to pay the cost, the board would meet it. Regarding the provision of additional facilities at the hospital, the board members stated that this would be discussed with the local committee. The deputation then withdrew. The board members discussed with the committee certain proposals which had been made, and assured it that these would receive full consideration at the board’s next meeting. LAWN TENNIS. The Roxburgh and Clyde lawn tennis teams met on the local ground on Saturday. Weather conditions were perfect. Roxburgh won 13 sets and 122 games, and Clyde 3 ing are the' 1 detailed scores, Roxburgh names being given first: —

Laloli 9 beat E. George and I- Wilson 5, H. Murray and J. Rooney 9 beat J. Davidson and R. Lopdell 3. Ladies’ Doubles. —Miss George and Mrs George 7 beat Misses Hanning and Stevens 5, Miss Donaldson and Mrs Allen 7 beat Misses Holt and Annan 2. Mixed Doubles.—J. .Black and Miss George 9 beat E. George and Miss Stevens 7, F. Laloli and Mrs George 7 lost to I. Wilson and Miss Hanning 9, H. Murray and Miss Donaldson 9 beat J. Davidson and Miss Holt 7, J. Rooney and Mrs Allen 9 beat R. Lopdell and Miss Annan 7. Totals; Roxburgh, 13 sets (122 games); Clyde, 3 sets (77 games).
