RATIONING OF WORK.
. CHRISTCHURCH TRAM EMPLOYEES. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 25. The Tramway Employees’ Union has decided to take a ballot this week among its members to ascertain whether a majority favoured the rationing of work and a general shortening, of hours or no change from the existing hours or wages. The Tramway Board recently offered the union a rationing scheme, which was rejected and 15 men were dismissed.
"As officials we do not want people who are in the game for politics,” said Archdeacon Creed president of the New Zealand Croquet Council, at the an-’’ nual meeting recently (states the Christchurch Times). “There are people in all sports who are officials, but do not know anything about the game with which they are associated, and care less. We want to be as friendly and sociable, as possible, but when the political aspect comes into the administration of games that friendliness departs."
