GAOL QUARRY EXPLOSION. TWO DEATHS REPORTED. (United Press Assoclatl m.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) ADELAIDE, January 23. A gaol warder and one prisoner nre dead as the result of the premature explosion. As the result of a premature explosion at Yatala Gaol a warder and five prisoners, including one with a life sen-/ fence, were injured, . three of them seriously, by-fragments of rock. A VERANDA COLLAPSES. YOUNG GIRL KILLED. . ... / •. f SYDNEY, January 28. (Received Jan. 23, at 11 p.m.) Following a spell of intense heat today a southerly buster . struck Sydney. It brought down a veranda in front of premises which were recently destroyed by fire in Camperdown, a suburb. Several people were waiting for buses underneath the veranda, and some rushed to safely, but four girls were overwhelmed by a mass of tangled steel and galvanised iron. Irene Ryan, aged 18, was killed, while others were cut and bruised and suffering from shock.
