It brought down a veranda in front of premises which were recently destroyed by fire in Camperdown, a suburb. Several people were waiting for buses underneath the veranda, and some rushed to safely, but four girls were overwhelmed by a mass of tangled steel and galvanised iron. Irene Ryan, aged 18, was killed, while others were cut and bruised and suffering from shock.
