SPEEDWAY ROYAL.

It is announced that a thrilling series of races will be witnessed at the Speedway Royal this evening when riders representing England, Australia, and Otago will be seen in action in team and handicap racing. The. real thrill of team racing should be brought out in full. Roger Frogley, who gave an excellent exhibition of broadsiding last Saturday, will captain one team, while the popular Harry Mangham, who put up the fastest time at the last meeting, will captain the other team. Frogley will have with him as team mates Ben Unwin (Australia), Jack Young (Otago), and Reg. Ranby (Wellington), while Mangham’s team will include Norman Evans (England), Hi'liray Buchanan (Australia), and Bill Blair (Otago). The captains should have a battle royal in an effort to lead their teams to victory; but there will be so many other stirring struggles for supremacy, not only in the bids for first place, but also for second and third places. The contest will be decided on the points scored in a series of four races, in each of which each team will have two competitors. Another contest will be the match England v. Australia and New Zealand, which will be decided in one heat of four laps from a rolling start. Frogley and Evans will represent England, while Buchanan and Mangham will be the Australia and New Zealand representatives. As the Englishmen and Buchanan are making a final appearance in Dunedin. to-night, good performances may be expected from them. Another item of more than ordinary interest will be the short limit handicap, which should tend to make for closer racing and exciting finishes. Another contest for the Ford Golden Helmet will be run off between Jack Young (the holder), Bill Blair, Alexander Rait, and Jim Nisbet. The local second division riders, who are showing much improved form, will contest the handicap races allotted to them. They have been putting in some good work while at practice, and should give a good account of themselves. Two more British riders will be seen at the Speedway Royal shortly in “ Smiler ” Jim Kempster and Frank Bond, while, the “ famous ” Jack Bishop and the “demon” Cyril Anderson (both of Queensland) have been booked to make appearances.
