PORT CHALMERS NEWS.

MAGISTRATE’S COURT. A sitting of the Port Chalmers Magistrate’s Court, which had been set down for yesterday, has been adjourned until February 6. BOUNDARY HIGHWAY. The road from Carey Bay to the Port Chalmers boundary, of an approximate distance of one mile, was recently metalled and blinded with clay. The roller was then used on the surface, and an excellent piece of road was made. The improvement has been much appreciated by those who habitually use the highway. The additional traffic that passed over the road during the holiday season helped considerably to place the surface in a satisfactory condition. With a little attention every month or so in order to prevent pot-holes making an appearance, the present fine surface should be maintained for some time. The work was carried out by the Borough Council s staff, and the foreman is to be congratulated on it. DIVER AT WORK. Diver R. Arthur, of the Harbour Board’s staff, was engaged yesterday in clearing obstructions from the sea bottom at the gates of the large and small docks. It is some time since this work received attention. The obstructions removed yesterday consisted mostly of silt, which is deposited against ■ the sill of the dock gates by the tide and the action of ships’ propellers. NEW FISHING BOAT. She will be fitted with a 12 h.p. engine. The new boat will be the third designed and built by Mr Carey for the Taieri fishing industry, and the sixth of the design for coastal fishing.
