CENTRAL OTAGO. ROXBURGH NOTES.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) ROXBURGH, December 18. RESTROOM. The • women’s restroom, erected under the auspices of the local branch of the Plunket Society, was officially opened yesterday afternoon, by Mrs J. Bennetts (president), with whom was associated Mrs J. A. Johnstone, of Dunedin, president of the society for Otago. Other speakers were the Mayor (Mr Laloli), Mr T, P. Michelle (chairman of the Teviot Power Board), Dr Gilmour, and Mr J. Bennetts, representing the Tuapeka County Council. Tile various speakers commended the work of the society, and congratulated, the local branch upon its enterprise in erecting the restroom. The building ie situated in the centre of the town, and comprises nurses’ office and waiting room. It is of pleasing design, and constructed in concrete, and will form a valuable asset to the town and district. COMBINED CHURCH SHOW. 'The annual summer show, horticultural and industrial, of the Presbyterian, Methodist, and Anglican Churches was held last week. Owing to the backward season, it was anticipated that there would be a considerable falling off in exhibits, particularly in flowers, but the contrary was the case, and when the last entry was staged in the flower sections it was found that this year exceeded the previous' one by 73 entries, there being 224 for 1930 as compared with 151 for 1929. The flowers were a very fine exhibit, and afforded some illustration of what the district is capable of growing. Roses were outstanding, and it appeared that the show found these at their best. Other sections were not as good as former years, but, taking it all through, the show was very successful, and reflected credit on the committee in charge and the exhibitors, Mr J. B. Gilmour, as chairman, had plenty to do, and-he was ably assisted by Mr J. Fleming, secretary. The show was opened by _Mr Laloli (Mayor), and was well patronised. On account of the increasing popularity of the flower section, the committee has gone into the question of improving the facilities for exhibiting, annext year a considerable improvement will "be effected, which will be appreciated by exhibitors and stewards.
