THE PARIS MURDER
CLIMAX TO A LIAISON. GIRL’S STATEMENT TO POLICE. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) PARIS, November 30. (Received Dec. 1, at 5.5 p.m.) Later details reveal the extraordinary character of the motor car murder. Mademoiselle Mery, the 21-year-old daughter of wealthy parents, in a full statement to the police made no secret of her motive. She said she had met Heurteur at a kinema, where she was conductor of the orchestra. A liaison sprang up between them, but as Heurteur never allowed her into his flat she became convinced that there was another wi nan. Yesterday, in company with a friend, she called at his flat. Heurteur met her at the door, but did not allow her to enter. He offered to drive Mery’s friend back to the suburbs. When they were returnmg to Paris Mery accused the man of duplicity, and he replied that her constant suspicions were intolerable. Mery said she had a revolver in her handbag, whereupon Heurteur said: “ Kill me if you like or commit suicide. It is all the same to me." Exasperated at his indifference, Mery said she slowly slid her hand behind his head and shot him in the back of the neck.
A previous message read as follows; A policeman who was on point duty, seeing a motor car which was out of control collide with and knock down a lamp post, found the driver, M. Heurteur a musical director in the Grand Kinema, shot and dying. A girl who was sitting alongside him said: I kilted him because I loved him. Otherwise he would have killed me.” M. Heurteur died in hospital.
