KNOX CHURCH.

ANNUAL REPORT The annual report of the Deacons’ Court of Knox Church, which will be presented at the annual meeting of the Kirk session and Court to-morrow ingot, states, inter alia:—After meeting an expenditure of £3260 8s 7d, the general account shows a credit balance of £47 13s id. Envelope contributions for ourselves have increased by over £IOO., Seat rents reveal an unexpected improvement, due principally to the collection of arrears by the convener. No comparison of value can be _ made of the plate offerings, as the period included the last two months of Mr Burns a occupancy of the pulpit, when the revenue from this source was more than double the average amount received. Until many more members join' the envelope system, it is necessary to maintain an average plate offering of at least £l3 per Sunday. On the expenditure side it will be observed that the cost ol supply and minister’s salary amounted to just ' a little over the . total salary usually paid. Non-recurring items of expenditure total £245 ..13s (boys’ work shortage £4O 9s sd, repairing turrets £l3 14s, ministers removal expenses £144 17a lid, anniversary expenses £22 9s 3d. new hymn books for choir £24 2s sd). As against this there were savings in respect ot motor allowance and minister’s holiday supply amounting to about £llO. After taking into account the result of the appeal made after the close of the financial year, it is satisfactory to be able to report that the amount still required will not exceed- £llsO. The court does not anticipate any difficulty iu arranging the necessary finance until this amount is raised. • It has, however deferred in the meantime the ordering of the external ca.sework which is estimated to cost £250. It is expected that the organ will be installed and the church alterations completed about August, 1931 The annual report of the Kirk Session states: At tliis time lest ysar we were drawing near to the time when the Rev James Burns would bring bis much-appre-ciated service as temporary minister of Knox Church to a close, and looking forward to the-task of selecting a permanent minister. Now we are in the happy position of having settled amongst us the Rev. D. C. Herron, M.C., M.A., who had pre* viously done 10 years* splendid work as minister of St. David’s, Auckland. After six months’ experience of his ministrations, both in and out of the pulpit, we are well able to understand why he was held m such affection and esteem by the people of St. David’s, and why they parted wrth him with such great regret. Mr and Mrs Herron have both already succeeded in capturing the warm affection of our people, and there is every that our church, under Mr Herron’s leadership, will, with the blessing of God, continue to prosper as abundantly in the future as it has done in the past.
