VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In yesterday's issue of the Daily Times I noticed a letter from Mark Rolls on vocational guidance. Mr Rolls appears to be labouring under a misapprehension. The Vocational Guidance Committeee is going about its works in a scientific manner and, before making any recommendations, is carrying out’ certain investigations. I would point out to Mr Mark Rolls that the committee is not interested in individuals, but in the whole social organisation. If statistics are collected over a period of years the committee will have sufficient data on which to work, and may then be able to suggest to the Government reforms necessary in our educational system. Mr Rolls stresses the point that individuals can be guided into the vocations for which they are fitted, but how many have the opportunity to consult a specialist in these matters? Then, too, I would, ask Mr Mark Rolls, How is the specialist, when found, going to set about the analysis of one individual, let alone the hundreds who are turned loose from our schools yearly? No, I fear that whatever the experience gained in the United States may he, we New Zealanders must plod along in our own way, and conduct our own experiments.—l am, etc.. Experimentalist.
