PROTESTANT ALLIANCE.

The fortnightly; meeting of the Triumph Lodge, No. 9, Protestant Alliance, was held in the lodge hall, Kensington, on Thursday evening, when there was an excellent attendance of officer’s and members. The lodge was opened by the WM., Bro. George assisted fay the F.M., Bro. G. Perrin, and the chaplain, Bro. J. Matthews, PM. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, the other business of the lodge being suspended until after the initiation of candidates, there being seven in attendance. The reports on candidates were received and deemed, satisfactory, and the ceremony of initition was duly carried out by the WM., who was ably assisted by his officers. The business of the lodge was then resumed. The correspondence was then dealt with. The Sick Visitors' Committee reported on the sick members. Their work had been very light this time, only two brothers being on the sick list. The good and welfare of the lodge was then taken. When the D.GM., Bro. A. Devlin, who has been touring tbe Dominion, reported on the visits which he had payed to the lodges in Auckland, Napier, Hastings, Wellington, Wanganui, Christchurch, Oamaru and Invercargill districts, he spoke for some time on the progress and the attendances at the various lodges, and said hs was well pleased with what ha had seen. He bad pleasure in conveying their faternal greetings to Triumph Lodge. Bro. Devlin was accorded a vote of thanks for his reports and greetings. Seven more names were handed to the secretary. The secretary intimated that Triumph Lodge way sure now of winning the membership competition shield at present held by the Invercargill Lodge. DM. Bro. W, O’Neill here intimated that as he had charge of the social function to be given to the ladies by the brethren he wished to leave the lodge as the guests were waiting. The lodge was then adjourned, and the guests of the evening were admitted. D.M. Bro. O’Neill extended a welcome to all. The evening was then open by the singing of the National Anthem after which games, dancing, and songs were indulged in. Musical items were rendered by Bros. Dates, O’Neill, Davies, Bennett, Smith, Goigrove, Bachop. Bro. Hodges, chief steward, dispensed thegood things, and every one had a very nappy time. The regular fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Excelsior Lodge, No. 41, was held on Wednesday evening in tbe lodge hall, Green Lsland. The lodge was presided over by the WM.,, Bro. J. MTnnes, assisted by the chaplain, Bro. H. A. Christie, and a full attendance of officers and a fair attendance of members. Correspondence was read and dealt with. Amongst the correspondence was a letter from the grand secretary of the society' in Perth, West Australia, stating that Bro. Roberts, of this lodge, had been placed on the doctor and chemist. The lodge was very gratified to learn that arrangements bad been made, and the secretary was instructed to write the G.S. at Perth, expressing the lodge's appreciation for the assistance he had rendered. The Sick Committee reported on their visits. Bick pay and accounts to £lO were passed for payment. Bro. Murie gave a brief report on the season euchre tournaments, and also presented the balance sheet, which wes considered very satisfactory. Ho was duly thanked for his report. The reported on his efforts to obtain a safe for the lodge, for which he was accorded a vote of thanks. A vote of thanks wne accorded the visiting brothers. A pleasant hour wap spent in harmony.
