KNOX CHURCH ORGAN
NEW INSTRUMENT ORDERED. The Deacons’ Court of Knox Church, Dunedin, has placed an order with the well known English firm of organ builders, Messrs William Hill and Sons and Norman and Beard, Ltd. for a new pipe organ. The erection of the instrument in the church will be commenced about next April, and it will be ready for use by August of next year. All the latest accessories and improvements in organ building will be included in this new organ. The action is electropneumatic, similar to that in the Town Hall organ, and the console will be detached and placed on the ground floor of the church, about where the pulpit now stands. The choir will be seated around the console of the organ, thus giving the organist complete control of the choir from his seat.
The specifications of the organ have been chosen to suit the requirements of Knox Church, and have been drawn up by Mr Donald W. Beard, a director of the organ building firm, and Mr C. Roy Spackman, the organist of the church. Great care has been taken in the setting out of the specifications and when completed the organ should prove not only a beautiful and dignified instrument to lead the service of praise in the church, but also a valuable addition to the musical assets of Dunedin city. The organ will contain 38 speaking stops, will be blown by electricity and the console will be of the stop-key variety, replacing the draw stop knobs.
