OBITUARY.
MRS JAMES BLACK,
The death occurred at Christchurch on Saturday week (says the Southland Times) of Mrs James Black. The late Mrs Black, who was 84 years of age, was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Walders, of Waipahi, and married Mr James Black in the late ’seventies. During 1880 and part of 1881 they owned the old Waipahi Hotel, near the junction of the Dunedin and Tapanui roads, at Waipahi, which was destroyed- by fire some years ago. In 1881 Mr and Mrs Black removed to East Gore, and for many years they occupied a house at the top of the Huron street hill. Mr Black carried on contracting work. After about nine years’ residence at East Gore, Mr Black passed away. Mrs Black continued to live there until about 20 years ago, when she removed to Christchurch, where she had lived up to the time of her death. She leaves one son, Mr A. Black (Christchurch), and two daughters living in Wellington, Mesdames T. Taylor and O’Connor.
