PALMERSTON NOTES.
(From Oub Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, October 3. LAWN TENNIS. The third annual meeting of the Eastern Districts Lawn Tennis Sub-association was held in Palmerston on September 30. Mr A. S. Gillanders was in the chair, and delegates were present from Palmerßton, Dunback, Waikouaiti, and Shag Point. The following office-bearers were appointed for the coming season:—President. Mr R. Templeton; secretary (pro tem.), R. L. Smith; executive—Messsr6 M'Dougall and Brownlie: Selection Committee—Messrs Sawyer, Templeton, and Gillanders. After much discussion on the matter of the size of teams, it was decided that teams should be eight a side, as last year, in both A and B Grades. It was decided that matches should be played every Saturday this season provided there were sufficient entries. ANGLING. Fair bags of trout have been caught by local anglers. The heaviest fish were caught by Mr A. Fraser, sen., a veteran angler of 86 years, who landed a 31b and an 81b fish on October 1. GIRL GUIDES.
A largely attended service waa held in the Presbyterian Church, Dunback, on the afternoon of Sunday September 28, the occasion being the dedication of the flag presented by M r H. Wilson to the First Dunback Company of Girl Guides. The service was conducted by the Rev. R. Lamont who gave a very interesting address. The First Palmerston Company of Girl Guides, the Palmerston Ranger Pack, and the Palmerston Boy Scouts were present. • After the service the Guides Rangers and Scouts paraded to the soldiers’ memorial where after the salute had been taken by the District Commissioner (Mrs MTjeod), the companies were dismissed.
